India Post has released the notification for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026 under the Schedule-II, July-2026 engagement cycle. Through this recruitment drive, the Department of Posts aims to engage eligible candidates for Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak posts across various postal circles and divisions in India. Eligibility Details
Candidates must meet the following educational and other qualification requirements to be eligible for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026:
- Educational Qualification:Â Candidates must pass Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) from a recognized board.
- Mathematics and English:Â Candidates must pass Mathematics and English as subjects in Class 10.
- Local Language:Â Candidates must study the prescribed local language of the selected postal circle up to the 10th standard.
- Computer Knowledge:Â Candidates must have basic knowledge of computers.
- Cycling:Â Candidates must know how to ride a bicycle.
- Other Requirement:Â Candidates must have an adequate means of livelihood besides the GDS allowances.
- Experience:Â The department does not require any previous work experience for these posts.
Salary Details
India Post pays GDS employees through the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) system. In addition, eligible employees receive Dearness Allowance and other benefits as applicable under the GDS rules.
- Branch Postmaster (BPM): ₹12,000 to ₹29,380 per month
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM): ₹10,000 to ₹24,470 per month
- Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 to ₹24,470 per month
- Annual Increase:Â The TRCA includes an annual increase of 3%, subject to the applicable rules and conditions.
- Additional Benefits:Â GDS employees can receive Dearness Allowance along with GDS Gratuity and benefits under the Service Discharge Benefit Scheme.
Note: GDS employees do not hold regular Central Government employee status, and their pay and benefits differ from those of regular Central Government employees.
Age limit
The department will calculate the candidate’s age as on the last date of submission of the online application.
- Minimum Age:Â 18 years
- Maximum Age:Â 40 years
- SC/ST Candidates:Â 5 years of relaxation
- OBC Candidates:Â 3 years of relaxation
- EWS Candidates:Â No age relaxation
- PwBD Candidates:Â 10 years of relaxation
- PwBD + OBC Candidates:Â 13 years of relaxation
- PwBD + SC/ST Candidates:Â 15 years of relaxation
Application Fee
Candidates need to pay the prescribed application fee according to their category. The official notification confirms the following fee structure:
- General/Other Candidates: ₹100
- Female Candidates:Â No Fee
- SC/ST Candidates:Â No Fee
- PwBD Candidates:Â No Fee
- Transwomen Candidates:Â No Fee
The department will accept the applicable fee through the available online payment methods. Also, candidates should note that the paid fee is non-refundable.
Selection Process
India Post will select candidates for GDS posts without conducting any written examination or interview. The department will prepare the merit list mainly on the basis of Class 10 marks.
- Merit List:Â The department will prepare a system-generated merit list using the marks obtained in the Class 10 examination.
- Marks Calculation:Â The department will calculate the percentage up to four decimal places.
- Grades/CGPA:Â If a marksheet contains grades or CGPA instead of marks, the department will convert them into marks according to the prescribed rules.
- Document Verification:Â Shortlisted candidates must appear for physical verification of their original documents before the concerned authority.
- Pre-Engagement Formalities:Â After successful document verification, selected candidates must complete the required formalities, including basic training and other prescribed requirements.
- Final Engagement: The department will complete the engagement after verifying the candidate’s documents and other required credentials.
