Eligibility Details
Candidates must meet the prescribed educational and skill requirements for the respective post:
- Junior Stenographer: Candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination and must possess stenography proficiency as prescribed by the relevant government norms.
- Junior Secretariat Assistant: Candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination. They must also meet the prescribed computer typing and computer-use proficiency requirements.
- Junior Hindi Translator: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent in Hindi or English, with English or Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level.
Salary Details
The selected candidates will receive salaries according to the applicable Pay Matrix levels under the 7th Central Pay Commission:
- Junior Stenographer: Pay Level-4 — ₹25,500 to ₹81,100 per month.
- Junior Secretariat Assistant: Pay Level-2 — ₹19,900 to ₹63,200 per month.
- Junior Hindi Translator: Pay Level-6 — ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 per month.
Age limit
The candidate’s age will be calculated as on the closing date of the online application.
- Minimum Age Limit: 18 years
- Maximum Age Limit: 27 years (Jr. Steno), 28 Years (JSA), 30 Years (JHT)
- Age Relaxation: The competent authority will provide relaxation to eligible candidates as per applicable government rules.

The recruitment authority will provide age relaxation to eligible candidates according to the applicable government rules:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwD: 10 years
- Ex-Servicemen (ESM): 5 years
Application Fee
Applicants must pay the prescribed application fee based on their category. However, candidates belonging to the exempted categories do not need to pay any fee.

Selection Process
CSIR NEIST will select candidates through a written examination and the applicable skill or typing test for each post.
Junior Stenographer
Candidates will first appear for an MCQ-based written examination. After qualifying in the examination, candidates will take the Stenography Test.
Written Examination:
- Total Questions: 200
- Total Marks: 200
- Duration: 2 hours
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: 50 questions for 50 marks
- General Awareness: 50 questions for 50 marks
- English Language & Comprehension: 100 questions for 100 marks
- Negative Marking: 0.25 mark for each incorrect answer
Stenography Test:
Candidates will receive one dictation for 10 minutes in either English or Hindi at a speed of 80 words per minute (wpm). Candidates must then transcribe the dictated passage within the prescribed time.
- Dictation Duration: 10 minutes
- Dictation Speed: 80 wpm
- Language: English or Hindi
- Transcription Time for English: 50 minutes
- Transcription Time for Hindi: 65 minutes
Junior Secretariat Assistant
Candidates will appear for Paper I and Paper II in the written examination. Candidates who qualify as required will then take the Computer Typing Test.
Paper I – Mental Ability Test:
- Total Questions: 100
- Total Marks: 200
- Duration: 90 minutes
- Negative Marking: No negative marking
- Nature: Qualifying in nature
Paper II:
- Duration: 60 minutes
- General Awareness: 50 questions for 150 marks
- English Language: 50 questions for 150 marks
- Negative Marking: 1 mark for each incorrect answer
Computer Typing Test:
- English: 35 words per minute
- Hindi: 30 words per minute
Junior Hindi Translator
Candidates will have to qualify in Paper I and Paper II of the prescribed written examination.
Paper I – Mental Ability Test:
- Total Questions: 100
- Total Marks: 200
- Duration: 90 minutes
- Negative Marking: No negative marking
- Nature: Qualifying in nature
Paper II:
- Duration: 60 minutes
