East Coast Railway has opened a major apprenticeship opportunity for candidates looking to gain practical experience in the railway sector. Eligibility Details

Candidates must meet the prescribed educational and technical requirements for the trade they choose. In addition, they should carefully check the trade-specific conditions before submitting their application.

  • Candidates must have passed Class 10 under the 10+2 examination system from a recognised board.
  • They must have secured at least 50% aggregate marks in Class 10.
  • Candidates must possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade.
  • The ITI qualification must meet the prescribed NCVT/SCVT requirements.
  • For the Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology) trade, candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • Candidates applying for the Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology) trade must also have at least 50% marks in both Class 10 and Class 12.
  • Candidates whose Class 10 or ITI results were pending on August 21, 2026, will not be eligible.
  • Engineering graduates and diploma holders cannot apply under this particular Act Apprentice recruitment because a separate apprenticeship scheme covers them.

Salary Details

Candidates will receive a stipend during their apprenticeship training.

  • The stipend will follow the applicable Apprentices Act and Railway Board rules.
  • The exact monthly amount may vary according to the prescribed rules.
  • Apprentices will not receive the salary or benefits of regular Railway employees.
  • The apprenticeship will not guarantee permanent employment in East Coast Railway.

Age limit

The Railway will calculate the candidate’s age as on September 15, 2026.

  • Candidates must be at least 15 years old.
  • The maximum age limit is 24 years.
  • OBC candidates will get 3 years of relaxation.
  • SC/ST candidates will get 5 years of relaxation.
  • PwBD candidates will get 10 years of relaxation.
  • Ex-Servicemen will get relaxation as per the applicable rules.

Application Fee

Candidates must pay the prescribed fee based on their category.

  • General/OBC/EWS: ₹100
  • SC/ST: No fee
  • PwBD: No fee
  • Women candidates: No fee
  • The ₹100 fee is non-refundable.
  • Candidates can pay the fee through the available online payment modes.

Selection Process

The Railway will prepare the merit list mainly on the basis of Class 10 marks.

  • Candidates will not have to appear for a written examination.
  • The recruitment will not include an interview or viva.
  • The Railway will calculate merit using the percentage of marks obtained in all Class 10 subjects.
  • It will not follow the “best of five” method for calculating the percentage.
  • If candidates secure equal marks, the older candidate will get preference.
  • If their dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed Class 10 earlier will get preference.
  • Shortlisted candidates will appear for Document Verification (DV).
  • Candidates must also meet the prescribed medical fitness requirements.
