Through this recruitment drive, the Court seeks capable candidates for important secretarial and administrative responsibilities connected with the functioning of Hon’ble Judges and the Registry. The selected candidates will handle tasks such as taking and transcribing dictation, preparing and checking official documents, maintaining judicial records, coordinating with different branches, and managing confidential information. Eligibility Details
Candidates must fulfil the prescribed educational and skill requirements for the post they choose:
- Senior Personal Assistant: Candidates must hold a graduation degree from a recognised university. They must also have a minimum speed of 110 words per minute in English shorthand and 40 words per minute in English typing on a computer, along with good working knowledge of computers.
- Personal Assistant: Candidates must hold a graduation degree from a recognised university. They must also have a minimum speed of 100 words per minute in English shorthand and 40 words per minute in English typing on a computer, along with good working knowledge of computers.
Salary Details
The Delhi High Court offers the following pay levels for the selected candidates:
- Senior Personal Assistant: Pay Level 8 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (7th CPC) Pay Matrix.
- Personal Assistant: Pay Level 7 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.
In addition to the basic pay, selected candidates will receive other admissible allowances and benefits as per the applicable rules of the Delhi High Court.
Age limit
The Delhi High Court will calculate the candidate’s age as on 01 January 2026.
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- The maximum age limit is 32 years.
- Therefore, candidates must have been born between 02 January 1994 and 01 January 2008, both dates inclusive.
- The upper age limit will be relaxed for eligible reserved and other specified categories as per the recruitment rules.
Age Relaxation
Eligible candidates can claim relaxation in the upper age limit according to their respective category:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC-NCL: 10 years
- PwBD – General/EWS: 10 years
- PwBD – OBC: 13 years
- PwBD – SC/ST: 15 years
- Ex-Servicemen (ESM): 3 years, after deducting the period of military service from their actual age.
- Disabled Defence Services Personnel: Up to 45 years, while SC/ST candidates in this category can get relaxation up to 50 years.
- Regular employees of the Delhi High Court: No upper age limit, provided they fulfil the required educational qualification. However, this benefit does not apply to employees of other government departments, PSUs, Delhi District Courts, etc.
Application Fee
Candidates have to pay the prescribed examination fee according to their category:
- General/OBC-NCL/EWS: ₹1,500 + applicable transaction charges
- SC/ST/PwBD (eligible disability categories): ₹1,300 + applicable transaction charges
The fee can be paid online through UPI, Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card. Moreover, the examination fee is non-refundable and will not be adjusted against any other examination or selection process. The application will be considered successfully submitted only after the candidate completes the payment and generates the Confirmation Page.
Selection Process
The selection process differs slightly in execution between the two posts; however, both posts require candidates to clear every prescribed stage.Selection Process and Exam Pattern
Senior Personal Assistant
The recruitment process for Senior Personal Assistant will include four stages:
- Stage 1 – English Typing Test: Candidates will take a 10-minute computer-based typing test. The Court will assess a minimum speed of 40 words per minute in English typing. It will calculate the speed using the “characters with space” method and permit mistakes up to 3% of the total words typed. This stage will remain qualifying in nature.
- Stage 2 – English Shorthand Test: Candidates will receive a 550-word passage at a speed of 110 words per minute for 5 minutes. Afterward, they will get 45 minutes to transcribe the passage on a computer. The test carries 120 marks. Candidates can appear in two shorthand tests, and the Court will consider the better score. Candidates can make up to 27.5 mistakes; exceeding this limit will lead to disqualification.
- Stage 3 – Main (Descriptive) Examination: The examination will carry 100 marks and provide 120 minutes. It will test the candidate’s English language and written communication skills through essay writing, letter writing, grammar and comprehension, and translation.
- Stage 4 – Interview: The interview will carry a maximum of 15 marks. The Court has not prescribed minimum qualifying marks for this stage.
Personal Assistant
The selection process for Personal Assistant will also consist of four stages:
- Stage 1 – English Typing Test: Candidates will take a 10-minute computer-based typing test and must achieve at least 40 words per minute in English typing. The Court will use the “characters with space” method to calculate typing speed and allow mistakes up to 3% of the total words typed. This stage will remain qualifying in nature.
- Stage 2 – English Shorthand Test: Candidates will receive a 500-word passage at 100 words per minute for 5 minutes. They will then get 45 minutes to transcribe it on a computer. The test carries 110 marks. Candidates will get two opportunities, and the Court will consider the better performance. Candidates can make up to 25 mistakes, whereas exceeding the prescribed limit will result in disqualification.
- Stage 3 – Main (Descriptive) Examination: Candidates will get 120 minutes to complete the 100-mark descriptive paper. The paper will include:
- Essay of 250 words – 40 marks
- Letter Writing – 15 marks
- Grammar & Comprehension Passage – 25 marks
- Hindi to English Translation – 10 marks
- English to Hindi Translation – 10 marks
- Stage 4 – Interview: The interview will carry 15 marks, and the Court will not prescribe any minimum qualifying marks for this stage.
Final Merit
The Court will prepare the final merit list by adding the marks secured in Stage 2 (Shorthand), Stage 3 (Main Descriptive Examination) and Stage 4 (Interview). Therefore, the Typing Test will only serve as a qualifying stage and its marks will not contribute to the final merit.
In case candidates secure equal marks, the Court will first compare their Shorthand Test marks, followed by Main Examination marks, Interview marks, and finally their Date of Birth, with the older candidate receiving preference.
