Eligibility Details
Candidates must possess the required educational qualification for the respective apprenticeship trade. The post-wise eligibility details are as follows:
Technician Apprentice (Diploma)
- Civil Engineering: Three-year full-time Diploma in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Electrical & Electronics Engineering: Three-year full-time Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Computer Engineering: Three-year full-time Diploma in Computer Engineering, Information Technology (IT), or an equivalent qualification.
Graduate Apprentice (Non-Engineering – Oceanography)
- Bachelor’s Degree in any Science discipline from a recognized university.
- Eligible subjects include:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Botany
- Zoology
- Biotechnology
- Microbiology
- Biochemistry
- Environmental Science
- Marine Science
- Geology
- Computer Science
- Or any other equivalent Science discipline.
Graduate Apprentice (Office Administration / Finance & Accounts / Stores & Purchase / Human Resource Management)
- Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Eligible qualifications include:
- B.A.
- B.B.A.
- B.Com.
- B.Sc.
- Or any other equivalent Bachelor’s Degree.
Additional Eligibility Conditions
- Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026.
- Applicants must be registered on the NATS Apprenticeship Portal before appearing for the walk-in interview.
- Candidates who have already completed or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training are not eligible.
- Applicants with one year or more of work experience after obtaining the qualifying qualification are not eligible.
- Part-time, distance learning, private diploma, sandwich diploma, short-term, or certificate courses will not be accepted.
Salary Details
Selected candidates will receive a fixed monthly stipend during the one-year apprenticeship training. The stipend will be paid according to the category of the apprenticeship post.
- Technician Apprentice (Diploma): ₹10,900 per month
- Graduate Apprentice (Non-Engineering Degree): ₹12,300 per month
Note: This engagement is purely an apprenticeship under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961. Therefore, apprentices will receive only the prescribed monthly stipend, and no additional allowances or permanent employment benefits will be provided.
Age limit
The age limit will be calculated as on the date of the walk-in interview. Candidates must satisfy the following age criteria for the respective apprenticeship category:
- Technician Apprentice (Diploma): 18 to 24 years
- Graduate Apprentice (Non-Engineering Degree): 21 to 26 years
Age Relaxation
The upper age limit is relaxable as per Government of India rules:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
- PwBD (General): 10 years
- PwBD (OBC-NCL): 13 years
- PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
- Ex-Servicemen: Age relaxation will be applicable as per Government of India norms.
Application Fee
Candidates are not required to pay any application fee to participate in this apprenticeship recruitment.

- SC / ST: ₹0 (Nil)
- PwBD: ₹0 (Nil)
- All Other Categories: ₹0 (Nil)
Note: CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO) is conducting this recruitment free of cost. Moreover, no application fee is charged from candidates of any category.
Selection Process
The CSIR NIO Apprentice Recruitment 2026 selection process is simple and does not include any written examination. Instead, the institute will evaluate eligible candidates through the following stages:
- Walk-in Interview: First, eligible candidates must appear for the walk-in interview on the scheduled date and time. During the interview, the selection committee will assess the candidates based on their eligibility, academic background, and overall suitability for the apprenticeship.
- Shortlisting (If Required): Moreover, if a large number of candidates attend the interview, the Selection Committee may shortlist applicants before the final interview by adopting suitable screening criteria. Therefore, meeting the minimum eligibility conditions alone does not guarantee selection.
- Document Verification: Next, shortlisted candidates must present all original documents along with self-attested photocopies for verification. The institute will verify educational qualifications, age proof, Aadhaar Card, category certificates (if applicable), and other required documents before confirming the candidature.
- Final Selection: Finally, the institute will prepare the final selection list based on the candidate’s performance in the interview, successful document verification, and fulfillment of all eligibility conditions. The selected candidates will then be engaged as Apprentice Trainees for the prescribed training period.

How to Apply
Candidates who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria should complete the application process by following the steps given below:
- Check Your Eligibility: First of all, carefully read the official notification and confirm that you satisfy the required educational qualification, age limit, and other eligibility conditions for the respective apprenticeship post.
- Complete NATS Registration: Next, register yourself on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) Portal. After successful registration, obtain your Student Enrollment ID, as this enrollment number is mandatory for the application process.
- Download the Application Form: Thereafter, download the prescribed application form from the official CSIR-NIO website and fill it in carefully with accurate personal, educational, and apprenticeship registration details.
- Prepare the Required Documents: Meanwhile, keep all the necessary documents ready, including educational certificates, mark sheets, Aadhaar Card, passport-size photograph, NATS Enrollment ID, and category certificate (if applicable). In addition, carry both the original documents and one set of self-attested photocopies.
- Attend the Walk-in Interview: After completing the above steps, visit the interview venue on the scheduled date and report before 9:00 AM. However, candidates arriving after 10:00 AM will not be permitted to enter the venue.
- Complete Verification and Interview: Finally, submit the duly filled application form, complete the document verification process, and appear for the walk-in interview. If you successfully clear all the required stages, CSIR-NIO will engage you as an Apprentice Trainee for the prescribed training period.
