Eligibility Details
Candidates should check the educational qualification requirements carefully before applying, as the eligibility criteria vary according to the pay level:
- Level 1: Candidates must have passed Class 10th or hold an ITI, equivalent qualification, or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) issued by NCVT.
- Level 2 & Level 3: Candidates must have passed Class 12th or an equivalent examination. For technical categories, Matriculation with completed Act Apprenticeship or an ITI qualification approved by NCVT/SCVT is also acceptable.
- Level 4 & Level 5: Candidates must hold a graduation degree from a recognised institution.
Salary Details
The salary offered under the Southern Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 varies according to the pay level of the selected post. Candidates can check the level-wise initial pay below:
- Pay Level 1: ₹18,000 per month
- Pay Level 2: ₹19,900 per month
- Pay Level 3: ₹21,700 per month
- Pay Level 4: ₹25,500 per month
- Pay Level 5: ₹29,200 per month
In addition to the basic pay, selected candidates will receive applicable allowances and benefits as per the prevailing Railway rules.
Age limit
The Railway Recruitment Cell will calculate the candidate’s age as on 1 January 2027. Candidates must meet the prescribed age criteria on this date:
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 25 years
- Date of Birth: Candidates must have been born between 2 January 2002 and 1 January 2009, both dates inclusive.
- Age Relaxation: No upper or lower age relaxation is applicable under this recruitment
Application Fee
Candidates need to pay the application fee according to their category. Moreover, Southern Railway will refund the applicable amount after candidates appear in the sports trial.
- General/Other Candidates: ₹500 application fee. After appearing in the sports trial, candidates will receive a ₹400 refund, after deducting applicable bank charges.
- SC/ST, Women, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Minority and Economically Backward Class Candidates: ₹250 application fee. After appearing in the sports trial, candidates will receive a ₹250 refund, after deducting applicable bank charges.
- Candidates must pay the fee online through the prescribed payment gateway.
Selection Process
Southern Railway will select eligible candidates through a multi-stage recruitment process. First, the authorities will screen the applications and then assess candidates on their sporting ability, achievements, and educational qualifications.
- Application Screening: Officials will check the submitted applications and verify whether candidates meet the prescribed eligibility requirements.
- Sports Trial: Eligible candidates will participate in the sports trial, where officials will assess their game skills, physical fitness, and coach’s observations.
- Sports Achievement Assessment: The recruitment authority will evaluate candidates’ recognised sports achievements and certificates.
- Educational Qualification Assessment: Candidates will also receive marks based on their prescribed educational qualification.

- Medical Examination: Candidates who qualify the preceding stages must undergo the prescribed medical examination before appointment.
- Sports Trial: 40 marks
- Sports Achievements: 50 marks
- Educational Qualification: 10 marks
