The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026 for the post of Junior Associate (Customer Support & Sales) in its clerical cadre. This recruitment drive offers a major opportunity for candidates who want to build a career in the banking sector with one of India’s leading public sector banks. Moreover, SBI has announced 9,124 vacancies, including 7,680 regular vacancies and 1,444 backlog vacancies across 24 States/UTs. The selection process will include an online Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and a Local Language Proficiency Test wherever applicable. Therefore, eligible candidates should carefully check the recruitment details, state-wise vacancies, exam pattern, and other conditions before applying.

Eligibility Details

Candidates must meet the following educational requirements for the SBI Junior Associate (Customer Support & Sales) post:

  • Graduation: Candidates must hold a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.
  • Final-Year Candidates: Candidates who are currently studying in the final year/semester of graduation can also apply provisionally. However, they must pass their graduation examination on or before 31 December 2026.
  • Integrated Dual Degree (IDD): Candidates holding an IDD certificate must ensure that they complete/pass the IDD on or before 31 December 2026.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Matriculate Ex-Servicemen can also apply if they have obtained the prescribed Indian Army Special Certificate of Education, or the corresponding certificate from the Navy or Air Force, after completing at least 15 years of service in the Armed Forces of the Union. The certificate must be dated on or before 31 December 2026.

Salary Details

SBI offers an attractive salary package to candidates selected for the Junior Associate (Customer Support & Sales) post. The pay structure includes basic pay along with various allowances and benefits.

  • Starting Basic Pay: ₹26,730 per month.
  • Pay Scale: ₹24,050 – ₹64,480.
  • Approx. Starting Emoluments: Around ₹46,000 per month at a metro location such as Mumbai.
  • In addition, SBI provides Dearness Allowance (DA), other applicable allowances, Provident Fund, Pension under NPS, medical facilities, leave-fare benefits and other benefits as per the Bank’s rules.
  • However, the actual salary and allowances may vary depending on the place of posting.

Age limit

Candidates must meet the prescribed age criteria as of 01 April 2026.

  • Minimum Age: 20 years
  • Maximum Age: 28 years
  • Candidates must have been born not earlier than 02 April 1998 and not later than 01 April 2006.
  • Age relaxation applies to reserved categories as per SBI rules, including OBC, SC/ST, PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories.

Application Fee

Candidates must pay the applicable application fee according to their category. The fee is non-refundable.

  • General / OBC / EWS: ₹750
  • SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen (XS) / Disabled Ex-Servicemen (DXS): Nil
  • Candidates must pay the fee online through the available payment modes.
  • SBI will not refund the fee after payment.

Selection Process

SBI will select candidates through a three-stage recruitment process. However, candidates who already studied the specified local language in Class 10 or 12 do not need to appear for the Local Language Proficiency Test.

1. Preliminary Examination

First, candidates must appear for the online Preliminary Examination. The exam carries 100 marks and lasts 1 hour. Moreover, SBI provides separate timings for each section.

  • SBI will apply 1/4th negative marking for every wrong answer.
  • The Bank will not prescribe minimum qualifying marks for individual sections or the overall Preliminary Examination.
  • However, SBI will shortlist approximately 10 times the number of vacancies for the Main Examination based on the aggregate Prelims score.

2. Main Examination

Next, shortlisted candidates will appear for the online Main Examination. The Main Exam carries 200 marks and provides 2 hours 40 minutes to complete all sections.

  • SBI will deduct 1/4th mark for each wrong answer.
  • Candidates must achieve the minimum aggregate qualifying percentage prescribed by SBI.
  • SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/XS/DXS candidates will receive a 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying percentage.
  • Most importantly, SBI will prepare the final merit list using Main Examination marks only. Therefore, Prelims marks will not contribute to the final merit.

3. Local Language Proficiency Test

Finally, SBI will conduct the Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) for provisionally selected candidates who did not study the specified local language of their applied State/UT in Class 10 or Class 12.

  • Candidates who studied the required local language in Class 10 or 12 can skip the LLPT.
  • Such candidates must produce their Class 10 or 12 marksheet/certificate as proof.
  • The LLPT checks the candidate’s ability to understand and use the specified local language.
  • SBI will apply minimum qualifying marks, with 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/XS/DXS candidates.

In short: Prelims → Mains → Local Language Proficiency Test (where applicable) → Final Selection.
